In accordance with the Borough of Queenscliffe Governance Rules, notice was received by the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the following motion from Cr Grigau on 21 January 2026.

The motion relates to a new policy regarding Councillors standing for state or federal elections. This proposed policy was endorsed for the purpose of community consultation at the January Ordinary Meeting of Council.

The purpose of this proposed policy is to prescribe clear and consistent requirements that apply when a Councillor of the Borough of Queenscliffe stands as a candidate in a State or Federal election, in order to:

  • maintain the integrity of Council decision-making.
  • ensure appropriate separation between Council duties and election campaigning.
  • prevent any actual or perceived misuse of position or Council resources.
  • protect public confidence in the governance of the Borough of Queenscliffe.

The policy will be out for community consultation for a period of 21 days.
